Are
you aware that your glazing may be illegal in some areas? Since
1996 the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations,
Regulation 14 makes it mandatory that every window "shall
be of safety material or be protected against breakage",
where necessary for reasons of safety or health.
The
approved code of practice for Reg. 14 states that any glazing
from floor level to waist height (800mm) in walls and partitions,
and shoulder height (1500mm) in or near doors should be of Safety
Glazing to standard BS6206 Part 4,
The
shaded areas of the diagram opposite illustrate the high risk
areas that must be upgraded to safety glass standards. Glass in
these areas will almost certainly need upgrading if it is less
than 8mm thick. Georgian wired glass in many cases does NOT meet
the new requirements and should be checked as all other glass.
